We are the developers of a unique next-generation behavioral targeting solution and predictive content personalization technology. Our technology can predict a user's interests through an automated semantic analysis of publicly available information. It is able to create a detailed and ranked interest/topic profile of a user based on that user’s “digital footprint” on the Internet: web pages, social networks, tweets, alumni lists, etc.
The targetAPI is a way for other organizations to use our personalization and recommendation technology. It is offered as a hosted Web service: we operate servers that provide these functions, and customers' servers talk to our servers to access these functions.

In order to do its work, the targetAPI must be fed a list of users for whom profiles are required. If personalized recommendations are also required, the targetAPI must of course also have a list of items to recommend from. Both lists could potentially change over time, and a portion of the API deals with updating these lists so that their copies in our database are up-to-date with corresponding information in the customer database. Each item must have a textual description (title, keywords, or other form of description) and this is sent to our servers; this is the basis of the recommendation portion of our API -- e.g. an item whose textual description is about snowboarding gets recommended to people who are interested in snowboarding.
It's important to point out that our technology does not require previous behaviour to generate a profile (or recommendations) for a user. The predictive aspect of our technology is the ability to give statistically significant profiles and, if required, meaningful recommendations for users who may have little or no behavior history on a customer's site.
If a customer does, in fact, have significant behavior/purchase history for its users, our service is able to take that also into account and provide even better recommendations for that user. For example, if you run a sports-oriented news site, you probably know that your readers are interested in sports (!), and therefore are able to monetize your traffic through ad sales to sports apparel and sports drink suppliers. Imagine if you also know which of your users were highly interested in automobiles or music or films by using the targetAPI? Your advertising program would see an immediate lift in sales opportunities.
A significant benefit of this feature to all potential customers is that our technology can generate a profile containing insights into a user's interests that could never be generated by classic behavioral targeting methodologies which analyze only a subset of an online behavior and paths.
Like other targeting technologies, the targetAPI also learns from behavior: customers may send feedback to our servers about which items were liked/disliked by specific users, and this is taken into account when serving subsequent recommendations for these users.
